Hyderabad: Hyderabad police arrested a couple on Saturday for the murder of a seven-year-old girl in Yakutpura. The victim, identified as Ummehani Sumaiya, was killed on September 30 at her maternal uncle’s house.
Case details
According to Madannapet police, the accused — Mir Sami Ali (36), a water plant businessman, and his wife Yasmeen Begum (28) — are the maternal uncle and aunt of the deceased. They allegedly conspired to kill the girl over financial disputes with her mother, Shabana Sultana.
Investigators said the accused taped the child’s mouth, tied her hands with a piece of bed sheet, and later threw her into a water tank on the first floor of their house, leading to her death.
The case was initially registered on September 30 under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Following further investigation, additional charges under Sections 103(1) and 238 BNS were added.
Motive behind the crime
Police said the accused bore a grudge against the complainant. They suspected her of performing black magic after the death of their three-and-a-half-year-old daughter last year due to illness.
In addition, Sami Ali had recently taken possession of a house by making part payment, with the remaining amount due to the complainant. The couple reportedly resented the complainant’s frequent visits with her children and decided to target her daughter.
Seized material
Police seized several items from the accused, including:
- A roll of brown tape
- A pair of scissors
- A used piece of tape taken from the victim’s mouth
- The victim’s slippers
- A bed sheet used to tie her hands
- Another tan bed sheet
Forensic examination
The crime scene was examined with the help of the Clues Team, and forensic evidence including tape and clothes was collected.
Madannapet police said further investigation is underway.
