HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Police arrested two individuals involved in drug trafficking, including a Nigerian national, and seized 13 grams of MDMA from their possession. The arrests were made by KPHB Colony police based on credible information.
According to police reports, Murtala Mohammad, a Nigerian national, arrived in Mumbai on an international business visa and initially started a garment business with fellow Nigerians. However, within a few months, he turned to drug trafficking along with his associates.
Hyderabad-Based Student Caught in Drug Trade
Meanwhile, Gangireddy Gari Rohith, a Hyderabad resident, became addicted to drugs while studying BBA in the USA. Later, he moved to Mumbai to join an acting school, where he met Ajahu Joshu, from whom he used to purchase and consume drugs. In 2021, Rohith came in contact with Murtala Mohammad, who was selling drugs in Mumbai at the time. However, Murtala was arrested by the police and sent to judicial remand.
After securing bail in 2023, Murtala resumed his drug trade. Subsequently, Rohith and Murtala expanded their drug business to Hyderabad.
Police Operation and Arrests
On March 6, Rohith, using a fake identity as Avaiz, booked bus tickets under the Dolphin Travels service and coordinated with Murtala Mohammad, who arrived in Hyderabad carrying drugs. He reached the Miyapur Metro Station to deliver the contraband.
Acting on a tip-off, police launched an operation and intercepted them near Vishal Society in Addagutta on March 7 around 11 PM. Both suspects were taken into custody, and police registered a case against Murtala Mohammad, Gangireddy Gari Rohith, and their supplier Ajahu Joshu from Nigeria.
During the operation, police seized 13 grams of MDMA drugs, two mobile phones, Rs 80,000 in cash and a car used in drug transportation.
For their efficiency in cracking the case, Sub-Inspector Lingam and Detective Inspector Ravi Kumar’s team were commended by CI Rajashekar Reddy and ACP Srinivas Rao.
