Hyderabad: Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) and Amberpet Police arrested a man in connection with a poppy husk racket, seizing 21 kilograms of contraband and drug-processing tools worth ₹3.5 lakh.
The accused, Mangala Ram, 44, originally from Barmer district in Rajasthan and residing in Chengicherla, Hyderabad, was working as a steel welder. Police said he was sourcing poppy husk cheaply from Rajasthan and reselling it in the city for profit, allegedly to support his addiction.
Along with the poppy husk, officers recovered a mixer grinder, two jars, weighing machines, a strainer, two mobile phones, and a Hero Splendor motorcycle.
The case has been registered at Amberpet Police Station under Crime No. 347/2025 and booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Authorities noted that individuals with erratic income are often drawn into narcotics trafficking. Citizens have been urged to report drug-related activity to H-NEW via 8712661601.
