Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar on Monday warned citizens against drunk driving, stating that it causes irreversible harm and personal loss.
In a social media post, he urged the public to act responsibly and avoid endangering lives. “Think before you drink and drive,” he said, adding that such behaviour imposes a “priceless penalty” not just on the individual but on several families. Sajjanar emphasised that no one is exempt from consequences if caught driving under the influence.
Hyderabad drunk driving crackdown sees 883 booked in a week
Between September 28 and October 4, 2025, the Hyderabad Traffic Police booked 883 cases of drunk driving. Among those booked, 716 were riding two-wheelers, while 95 were four-wheeler drivers. Another 70 three-wheeler operators and 2 heavy vehicle drivers were also caught.
The majority of offenders – 329 – were aged between 21 and 30. A further 297 cases involved people aged 31 to 40. Notably, 13 underage drivers were caught during the same period.

Blood alcohol content (BAC) levels ranged widely. As many as 405 cases involved BAC between 51–100 mg/dL, while 208 had levels between 30–50. One person was found with a BAC over 300 mg/dL.
Three individuals were convicted and sentenced to jail for driving under the influence.
