Hyderabad: The Commissioner’s Task Force, East Zone, arrested a Nigerian national in Hyderabad on 2 October and deported him after confirming that he had entered India illegally and posed a risk of drug-related activity.
Police identified the accused as Geoffrey Dozieobi Ibe, 33, a native of Nigeria. Moreover, investigators said he entered India through Nepal in 2019 without holding a valid passport or visa.
Hyderabad police deport Nigerian national over illegal stay and drug links
According to officials, Ibe had been associating with drug peddlers in Hyderabad and Bengaluru after his illegal entry. Consequently, Task Force officers apprehended him near Tolichowki Police Station following a tip-off. During questioning, he failed to provide a valid explanation for his stay. However, police confirmed that he did not carry narcotics at the time of his arrest.
Authorities later verified his identity and travel details with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Hyderabad, and the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW). Based on their reports, the Nigerian Embassy issued an Emergency Certificate to enable deportation.
Officials said his continued stay in India posed a high risk of further involvement in drug trafficking. Therefore, police initiated immediate deportation proceedings and escorted him back to Nigeria.
Inspector U. Chandra Shekar led the East Zone Task Force operation. In addition, sub-inspectors S. Karunakar Reddy, M. Anantha Chary, and P. Nagaraju assisted in coordination with FRRO and H-NEW.
