Hyderabad: With Bakrid approaching, top officials from Hyderabad Police, GHMC, and various civic departments convened on Wednesday at the Old Police Commissioner’s Office in Basheer Bagh to finalise preparations for a peaceful and hygienic festival across the city.
The meeting, chaired by Hyderabad City Police Commissioner C.V. Anand, brought together key stakeholders including GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan, Additional CP Law and Order Vikram Singh Mann, Joint Transport Commissioner C. Ramesh, and senior officers from Cyberabad and Rachakonda police zones.
A primary focus of the meeting was to prevent the illegal transportation of animals. Checkposts will be set up across the city to intercept vehicles without proper veterinary certification or those transporting animals deemed unfit for slaughter. Such vehicles will be seized and directed to GHMC-designated animal shelters. The Commissioner urged citizens, especially vigilante groups, to refrain from intervening and leave enforcement to authorised personnel.

The Animal Husbandry Department and GHMC were instructed to ensure 24/7 veterinary support at all checkposts. GHMC has been tasked with managing sanitation comprehensively – deploying dog-catching squads ahead of the festival, distributing carcass disposal bags, and organising special teams for waste removal on the festival day.
Additional tippers, garbage collection vehicles, and JCBs will be mobilised, with adequate staffing to manage increased waste during Bakrid. The GHMC Commissioner assured that sanitation teams will be active near key locations including mosques and residential areas.
Utilities departments have been directed to ensure continuous power and water supply during the celebrations. HMWSSB and Engineering wings are to maintain sewer systems vigilantly, while the RTA will ensure availability of support personnel including drivers, mechanics, and cranes.
Commissioner Anand emphasised the importance of structured coordination, suggesting that local, zonal, and commissionerate-level teams be formed with officials from all departments to streamline responses during the festival.
He concluded the meeting by expressing confidence that proactive planning and interdepartmental coordination would ensure a smooth and joyful Bakrid for the citizens of Hyderabad.
