Each patrol bike comes equipped with a PA system, radio set, dashboard camera, GPS tracker, LED baton, body camera, and tablet. They also carry wheel clamps, reflective gear, and a first-aid kit for enforcement and emergency response.
The traffic marshals, trained by the Hyderabad Traffic Police for 15 days, will assist at busy junctions and key intersections. They will work directly under the supervision of local police stations.
For the first time in India, transgender individuals have joined the traffic department as marshals. Commissioner Anand described it as a “historic move” and promised similar roles in GHMC and other departments.
The initiative, backed by Apollo Hospitals, L V Prasad Eye Institute, Shah Ghouse Cafe, and others, aims to raise Hyderabad’s average vehicle speed from 18 kmph to 23 kmph. The department also added three cranes to support daily traffic operations.
Commissioner Anand said the current count of 100 marshals would grow to 500 in future phases. He urged marshals to serve with integrity and help build public trust.
