Hyderabad: Hyderabad police have rebranded their vehicles with ‘TG’ number plates after the Telangana government replaced the state abbreviation ‘TS’ with ‘TG’.
188 police vehicles upgraded under rebranding drive
Police Commissioner C.V. Anand ordered the removal of old plates, installation of new ones, and repairs on all patrol and police station vehicles. The City Armed Reserve (CAR) Headquarters managed the work across 188 government vehicles.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, CAR Headquarters, said the works cost around ₹1.6 crore. Teams completed polishing, denting, painting, engine servicing, and hardware upgrades. In addition, officials re-commissioned 134 patrol vehicles on Sunday after finishing the stickering and restoration process.
Officials added that the refurbished fleet will strengthen law and order, improve crime prevention, and enhance emergency response. Moreover, Traffic ACP, Inspector, Pilot, and Interceptor vehicles will also undergo the process soon. Drivers, meanwhile, received instructions to keep the vehicles clean and well-maintained.
The Congress government approved the abbreviation change in February 2024. Later, in May, the state directed all departments to replace ‘TS’ with ‘TG’ in official communication, signage, websites, and documents. The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways also notified ‘TG’ as Telangana’s vehicle code.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy criticised the previous TRS government for selecting ‘TS’ without rules or logic. Therefore, he said, the adoption of ‘TG’ aligns Telangana with proper standards.
