Sudden Hyderabad rain overwhelms drains, cripples peak-hour movement
Hyderabad: Sudden evening rain lashed Hyderabad on Tuesday, submerging roads and stalling traffic across commercial and residential hubs.
Heavy rainfall battered Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Punjagutta, Erragadda, Madhapur, Lingampally, Kukatpally, Kondapur, Miyapur, and Chandanagar. Waterlogging under the Lingampally railway bridge forced police to reroute vehicles on the Gachibowli–Lingampally stretch. At Srikrishna Nagar in Yusufguda, submerged streets left motorists stuck for hours.
In Hitec City, gridlock extended late into the night. With weather turning abruptly after a dry day, commuters were caught off guard as arterial roads turned into pools.
Traffic crawled through Begum Bazar, Koti, Sultan Bazar, Abids, Basheer Bagh, Nampally, Liberty, Himayatnagar, Narayanguda, Lakdikapul, Khairatabad, and Tank Bund. Intersections across central Hyderabad reported long delays.
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and traffic police deployed teams across affected zones to handle diversions and pump out water.
