Hyderabad: Residents across Hyderabad have come out in strong support of the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA), holding rallies and rejecting what they called deliberate misinformation campaigns against the agency.
From colonies to bastis, citizens praised HYDRAA’s efforts to protect public assets. On Tuesday, walkers near Bathukamma Kunta in Amberpet lauded its work, while on Wednesday, nearly 15 colonies rallied at Manikonda Marri Chettu junction. Protesters carried placards reading “HYDRAA Zindabad” and hailed the agency for safeguarding parks worth over ₹1,000 crore in Manikonda Municipality.
Residents from Neknampur, Tirumala Hills, and Khajaguda Prashanti Hills also joined the protests. In several parks saved by HYDRAA, citizens planted saplings. OU Professors Colony and Raghavendra Colony organised separate rallies, crediting the agency with protecting over 6,000 square yards of public-use land. An appreciation meet was held in Raghavendra Colony to thank HYDRAA for preserving green space.
Chanting slogans, residents questioned whether personal gains of a few should come at the cost of hundreds. “HYDRAA has brought justice to lakhs,” a protestor said. “It stopped land grabbers who were profiting at the public’s expense. Without HYDRAA, could we have saved these parks or protected lakes from encroachments?”
They also credited HYDRAA with flood prevention. “Because of its timely desilting, rainwater now flows freely through city drains,” said residents. “HYDRAA was on the ground during every downpour, preventing damage.” Placards described HYDRAA as the guardian of parks and protector of public health.
Speakers warned against spreading false narratives. Referring to Hafeez Baba Nagar in Chandrayangutta, they said HYDRAA had not conducted any demolitions there and clarified that recent road-widening-related demolitions and school building removal were GHMC actions, not HYDRAA’s.
Several residents affirmed HYDRAA’s non-political, problem-solving approach. “It solves decade-old civic issues in days. The public stands with HYDRAA,” they declared.
