Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Traffic Police booked 10,652 motorists for driving on the wrong side of the road during a week-long special enforcement drive held from October 1 to October 7, 2025. The initiative was aimed at curbing one of the most hazardous violations contributing to road accidents in the city.
Wrong-side driving has emerged as a significant threat on Hyderabad’s roads. According to officials, it causes both traffic congestion and serious safety risks. The violation disrupts traffic flow and endangers the lives of all road users, not just those committing the offence.
As part of its road safety enforcement, the Hyderabad Traffic Police conducted targeted checks across the city to identify and penalize violators. Cases were registered under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Alongside enforcement, the police are continuing efforts to raise awareness through road safety campaigns. Educational programs are being held to promote compliance with traffic rules. Awareness messages are also being shared through social media to reach a wider audience and encourage safer driving practices.
The department has urged motorists to strictly avoid driving against the traffic flow. It warned that such behavior puts everyone at risk, including pedestrians and law-abiding drivers.
Officials also called on citizens to remain vigilant and report violations. Complaints can be made through the department’s social media handles, the Traffic Helpline (9010203626), or the e-Challan helpdesk (8712661690).
