Hyderabad: Hyderabad Traffic Police has launched a city-wide drive to stop the illegal use of sirens and musical horns. The campaign, which began on August 4, aims to improve road safety and reduce noise-related disturbances.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D. Joel Davis, IPS, said the drive includes enforcement and public awareness. Officers targeted vehicles using banned sirens and loud horns. He said such devices cause panic, lead to confusion, and often result in accidents.
Laws clearly prohibit these devices. Rule 119 of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989, and Section 190(2) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, ban the use of sirens and multi-toned horns.
Between August 4 and 19, police booked 590 cases for illegal sirens and 397 for multi-toned or musical horns. The special drive will continue in the coming weeks.
The department urged the public to remove these devices on their own and follow traffic rules. Officers also asked citizens to report violations through Facebook, X (Twitter), or the Traffic Helpline at 9010203626.
