Hyderabad: In a major enforcement drive, the Hyderabad Traffic Police conducted surprise drunk driving checks across 23 locations in the city on the night of October 4. The crackdown aimed to control the rising number of accidents caused by daytime alcohol consumption among drivers.
Officials reported that 312 individuals were caught driving under the influence. Among them were 259 two-wheeler riders, 17 three-wheeler drivers, and 36 four-wheeler motorists. All were booked under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Contrary to common perception, police said daytime drunk driving has become a growing concern. They noted an increase in cases involving transport vehicles and private drivers during daylight hours. The department said this trend poses a significant threat to public safety.

The violators will face court proceedings. Depending on the offence, penalties may include heavy fines, imprisonment, and either temporary or permanent suspension of driving licenses.
According to the Hyderabad Traffic Police, drunk driving not only endangers the person behind the wheel but also puts others at risk. The department affirmed its commitment to regular enforcement drives both during the day and night.
Officials urged citizens to refrain from drinking and driving. They also appealed for public cooperation during ongoing safety checks to help reduce road accidents in the city.
