Hyderabad: Ganja-fuelled violence claimed yet another life in the city as a young man was beaten to death by a group of youths late Sunday night in Sardar Patel Nagar, under the Kukatpally Housing Board limits.
The victim, Venkataramana, was reportedly assaulted by a gang led by one Pawan after he questioned their late-night nuisance on the street.
Eyewitnesses said the gang, allegedly high on ganja, was causing a ruckus in the residential area around midnight – shouting, loitering, and creating panic among residents. When Venkataramana objected and asked them to leave, the group turned on him.
In the scuffle that followed, he was surrounded and brutally attacked. By the time locals alerted the police and help arrived, he had succumbed to his injuries.
The body was shifted to Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem. Police have registered a case and said a manhunt is underway to trace the attackers.
Incidents involving youth gangs under the influence of ganja have been on the rise in Hyderabad, with several localities reporting late-night disturbances and public fear.
