Hyderabad: Union Minister G Kishan Reddy on Friday launched a 24-hour countdown to International Yoga Day at LB Stadium, marking the lead-up to Saturday’s main event.
The event, held as a prelude to the 11th edition of International Yoga Day on June 21, saw participation from several major yoga organisations, educational institutions, and social groups.
Speaking at the event, Kishan Reddy called yoga a gift from India to the world and credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for its global recognition. “Yoga should be part of everyone’s life. This is the gift Modi gave the world,” he said.
The event featured yoga demonstrations by prominent instructors and performances by noted personalities. Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, former Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister Srinivas Varma, MPs, MLAs, MLCs and other public representatives were present.
Actors Sai Dharam Tej, Khushboo, and Meenakshi Chaudhary also participated in the celebrations. Several attendees performed yoga asanas as part of the symbolic countdown activity.
International Yoga Day is observed globally on June 21 every year, following a resolution passed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. The first International Yoga Day held in New Delhi on June 21, 2015, entered the Guinness Book of World Records for highest yoga participation.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.” The Central government has lined up 10 special activities to mark the occasion across the country.
