Hyderabad: Cybercriminals posing as a casino app representative scammed a Hyderabad man of ₹13.42 lakh through a series of fraudulent online transactions.
The victim was introduced to a person identifying as “Miss Arya,” purportedly a representative of the casino platform. The scammers used a fake Instagram profile to gain the man’s trust and lured him with promises of high returns on investments. Over multiple transactions, he transferred ₹13.42 lakh.
Under the pretext of enabling withdrawal of profits, the fraudsters pressured him to make additional investments. Only after repeated demands did the victim realise he had been defrauded and approached the Cyber Crime Police. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.
In a separate incident, another man from Secunderabad lost ₹1.72 lakh after cybercriminals tricked him with a fake Regional Transport Authority (RTA) challan. The scammers sent him an APK file disguised as a traffic fine notice. Upon opening the file, the man’s bank account was compromised, and the funds siphoned off.
