Hyderabad: Nehru Zoological Park will add electric buses and increase free-roaming animals in its Safari to offer visitors a more adventurous experience.
Zoo Parks Director Dr Sunil S Hiremath said the park will introduce 10 to 12 new electric buses soon. “The new buses will have larger windows for better viewing. At present, the Safari operates with five buses,” he said.
The Safari has four zones for lions, tigers, bears, and bison. The park maintains eight lions, five tigers, eight bison, and four bears. However, only a pair enters the Safari at one time. Deer and peacocks also roam freely along the route. Officials confirmed they will release more animals from enclosures into the Safari.
Hyderabad zoo to launch night Safari, bio-luminescent park and aquarium
Dr Hiremath said officials will travel to Singapore Zoo in mid-October to study night Safari operations. “The visit will help us upgrade zoo infrastructure and add new attractions,” he said. The plans include a bio-luminescent park and a tunnel aquarium near Mir Alam Tank.
Last year, the zoo attracted 22.93 lakh visitors. Till August this year, 9.76 lakh people had visited.
The zoo also began the 71st World Wildlife Week on Thursday. Nearly 500 children joined drawing and painting contests on wild animals. On Friday, over 3,000 visitors attended a snake awareness show at the reptile amphitheatre. The Education Officer demonstrated venomous and non-venomous snakes and explained their role in ecology. The celebrations will run until October 8.
