Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection (HYDRA) team stepped up its monsoon operations on Tuesday, clearing water drains on flyovers and nalas to prevent urban flooding during heavy rains.
Following last Friday’s downpour, stagnant rainwater was reported atop multiple flyovers across the city, including Kondapur, Kothaguda, and Hafeezpet. HYDRA teams responded by cleaning mud-clogged drainage holes to ensure smooth water outflow.
Officials said HYDRA’s role goes beyond demolishing illegal structures and reclaiming government land. The agency is also tasked with public safety and disaster management, particularly during weather-related emergencies.
HYDRA personnel were seen on-site clearing blockages in nalas, where flooding often poses a major risk during the monsoon. In past incidents, people and vehicles have been trapped in overflowing drains. This week, waste and debris were manually removed to prevent future blockages.
Residents watching the cleanup operations welcomed the proactive intervention by the HYDRA teams.
