Hyderabad: Authorities seized illegal firecrackers worth ₹18 lakh in Hyderabad’s Siddiamber Bazar on Friday during a joint raid by the Commissioner’s Task Force East Zone Team and Afzalgunj Police.
The operation was carried out on Osman Gunj Road, where officers found 100 cartons of explosive firecrackers stored unlawfully inside a residential building. Police identified Shyam Kumar Sugandhi, 55, as the owner of the premises. He was taken into custody for storing explosive materials without a valid license.

Officials said the unauthorised storage posed a serious danger to public safety due to the risk of fire and explosion. The accused was aware of the legal restrictions and still chose to store the material in a densely populated area, violating safety norms.
The raid was led under the supervision of Inspector U Chandra Shekhar, with Sub-Inspectors M. Anantha Chary, S. Karunakar Reddy, and P. Nagaraju spearheading the operation, in coordination with Afzalgunj Police.
The case has raised fresh concerns over illegal firecracker sales and unsafe storage practices ahead of the festive season.
