Hyderabad: Residents of Himayatnagar have filed a complaint with the Hyderabad District Forest Officer’s office, demanding action against the illegal cutting of trees from public footpaths.
They reported that several large trees near Niloufer Café and along First Street were removed without any notice. These trees, they said, played a key role in providing greenery and clean air to the area.
The complaint, submitted to the office of District Forest Officer Srinivas, cited news reports that exposed similar illegal tree cutting incidents nearby. Complainants accused the culprits of violating the Telangana Preservation of Trees and Urban Areas Tree Plantation Act, 2015 (WALTA).
WALTA Act violation alleged in Himayatnagar tree removals
Residents urged forest officials to act immediately and launch a full investigation. They called for strict action under the WALTA Act to prevent future violations.
Since the DFO was unavailable, the complaint was submitted to staff at Aranya Bhavan. Activist Rangaiah blamed repeated violations on administrative neglect. He asked higher authorities to hold local officials accountable.
Media reports also claimed that some trees in the area had died due to chemical exposure. Residents demanded an inquiry into these reports and action against those responsible.
