Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in Telangana on Tuesday and Wednesday as a low-pressure system develops over the northwest Bay of Bengal.
Officials said the system may intensify within the next 24 hours, while the southwest monsoon remains active. As a result, heavy rains are expected in Bhadradri Kothagudem, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mahabubabad, Mulugu, and Warangal districts. Moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and winds of 30 to 40 kmph is expected in other districts.
Heavy Rainfall in Telangana linked to low pressure area
The IMD noted that while rainfall was high until mid-August, the last five days saw a decline, leading to rising temperatures in the state. Until August 18, Telangana recorded 14 percent above-normal rainfall, but by Monday it shifted to a nine percent deficit.
District-wise data showed Nirmal recorded the sharpest shortfall of 44 percent, followed by Peddapalli at 21 percent, Jayashankar Bhupalpally and Nalgonda at 13 percent each, Nizamabad at 12 percent, and Mancherial at 10 percent. Smaller deficits were reported in Sangareddy (6 percent) and Medchal-Malkajgiri (4 percent).
