Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued heavy rain alerts for several Telangana districts, warning residents to brace for severe weather. Yellow alerts cover erstwhile Adilabad, Khammam, Warangal, and Jagtial districts. Officials urged residents to avoid outdoor movement unless essential.
A low-pressure system will develop over the west-central Bay of Bengal, according to IMD. It will trigger widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall from Wednesday, August 13, for at least four days. Orange alerts apply to Hanumakonda, Warangal, Mahabubabad, Adilabad, and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts. Officials expect other districts to see significant rainfall. Emergency teams stand ready for rescue and relief operations.
Heavy rain alerts amid week of downpours
Southern districts have faced intense rainfall for a week, swelling streams and rivulets. On Monday, Gurampode mandal in Nalgonda district recorded the highest rainfall at 6.6 cm. Moderate showers hit Sangareddy, Vikarabad, Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Jangaon, Warangal, Karimnagar, and Nirmal.
Hyderabad also saw heavy rain on Monday evening. Waterlogging in several areas slowed traffic, and motorists faced delays as floodwater filled low-lying stretches.
