Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for seven districts in Telangana, warning of intense rainfall likely to continue until 18 August. The alert comes amid forecasts of sustained downpours, particularly over the northern and eastern parts of the state on 16 and 17 August.
The red alert covers Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahabubabad, and Mulugu. These areas are expected to witness very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, posing a risk of flooding and waterlogging.

An orange alert has also been declared for Nirmal, Jagtial, Peddapalli, Karimnagar, Hanumakonda, Warangal, Suryapet, and Khammam, where heavy to very heavy rains are likely. Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been issued across all districts, indicating the possibility of light to moderate showers with localised heavy rainfall.

District authorities have been instructed to take precautionary measures in view of the alerts. Officials said that earlier warnings have already prompted safety protocols and that further actions are being implemented based on updated IMD inputs.
