HYDERABAD: A case of alleged medical negligence at the government hospital in Mulugu district has resulted in the death of a newborn, sparking outrage from the grieving family.
The incident came to light when the victim’s relatives shared their ordeal with Telangana Ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Seethakka during their district tour.
Ravali Villa, a pregnant woman from Mulugu district, was admitted to the Area Hospital on Thursday morning for delivery, as she was full-term. Doctors initially assured the family that a normal delivery would be performed and continued attempts until the evening. However, as her condition worsened, the family reportedly requested an immediate caesarean or permission to shift her to a private hospital.
Despite their concerns, the doctors allegedly insisted on proceeding with a normal delivery. The family claimed that in the process, the baby died during labour. They blamed the doctors’ insistence on a normal delivery and said the child could have survived had a timely caesarean been performed.
The grieving relatives alleged that the doctors, instead of offering support, threatened them by saying they could do whatever they wanted with the baby’s body.
They held the medical staff responsible for the infant’s death and vowed not to leave the hospital until justice was served.
