Hyderabad: Police in Nawabpet cracked a major cattle theft case and arrested an inter-state gang near Kanman Kalva village, district SP D. Janaki said on Thursday. At a press conference in Nawabpet, the SP explained that four youths had formed the gang to make “easy money” by stealing cattle.
Gang behind theft of 16 cattle worth ₹14.5 lakh
The accused were identified as Kummari Ashok from Julapalli in Mahbubnagar, Tatipalli Sai Kumar from Mukundapur in Nalgonda, Sardas Akhil from Bommakal in Karimnagar, and Burka Sai from Pakala in Warangal.
Investigations revealed that the gang stole 16 cattle from Yadagirigutta, Yalal, Cyberabad, Vikarabad, Nawabpet, and Kulakcherla. The stolen animals were worth about ₹14.5 lakh, including a Jersey cow valued at ₹1 lakh.
Case solved in nine days with CCTV clues
SP Janaki said Nawabpet police solved the case in just nine days. Officers relied solely on CCTV footage since no direct evidence was available. She praised SI Vikram, ASIs Janardhan and Venkat Ramulu, head constable Suresh Babu, and constables Bhaskar and Shetty Naik. As recognition, she gave them cash rewards.
The SP also urged residents to install CCTV cameras at village junctions and main roads. According to her, wider coverage would help prevent thefts and assist police investigations.
