Hyderabad: The Income Tax Department confirmed on Sunday that the deadline to file income tax returns remains September 15 and rejected claims circulating on social media of an extension to September 30.
Officials said the Central Board of Direct Taxes never issued any new order. The original deadline was July 31, and the department had already extended it once to September 15.
Department warns against fake news on ITRs
The department posted a clarification on its official X account. “A fake news is in circulation stating that the due date of filing ITRs… has been further extended to 30.09.2025. The due date remains 15.09.2025,” the post read.
It urged taxpayers to trust only @IncomeTaxIndia updates. The department also reminded citizens that its helpdesk offers 24/7 support through calls, live chat, WebEx, and X.
The IT Department appealed to taxpayers to file early. It stated that quick filing will prevent a last-minute rush and maintain strong compliance momentum.
