Hyderabad: Jagadgirigutta Police arrested four men on Tuesday for killing a 40-year-old scrap dealer, Mahaboob, in Yellammabanda. The murder followed a long-standing dispute over a debt of Rs 11 lakh.
Police said Syed Fazel invited Mahaboob to the Goodwill Hotel under the pretext of settling the money issue. During a heated argument, Fazel’s nephew Syed Jahangir attacked Mahaboob with a knife, hitting him on the head. As Mahaboob collapsed, Fazel, along with Shaik Kareem and Shaik Ameer, stabbed him repeatedly. The group fled after confirming his death.
Officers from Jagadgirigutta Police Station and Balanagar SOT used CCTV footage to track the suspects. They caught all four near RRR Wines in Allwyn Colony within 24 hours of the crime.
Further investigation revealed that Fazel and his brother had loaned Mahaboob Rs 11 lakh five years ago. Mahaboob refused to repay and allegedly threatened Fazel when pressed for the money. That led Fazel and his associates to plan the murder.
The accused Fazel (48), Jahangir (23), Kareem (23), and Ameer (23) have been sent to judicial custody. Police seized four mobile phones, three knives (including a grass cutter), and one passenger auto from them.
Officers also confirmed that Mahaboob had a criminal record. He was a rowdy-sheeter with Musheerabad Police and had 12 prior cases, including murder, theft, arms violations, and criminal intimidation.
ACP P. Naresh Reddy, SHO K. Narshima, and DI P. Narendra Reddy supervised the operation. The Cyberabad police praised the swift coordination between Jagadgirigutta PS and Balanagar SOT.
