Hyderabad: The political ripples triggered by BRS MLC K. Kavitha’s six-page handwritten letter to her father and party chief K. Chandrashekar Rao refuse to settle. But senior Congress leader T. Jagga Reddy believes the storm is entirely within the BRS and poses no threat to his party.
Speaking at a Congress workers’ meeting in Warangal, Jagga Reddy said bluntly: “This letter drama may be newsworthy, but it hasn’t harmed us one bit. Whether one letter or a hundred surface, Congress remains strong with our guarantees and welfare agenda. It’s the BRS that’s bleeding politically.”
He pointed out that Kavitha’s letter had laid bare the family fissures within the BRS, calling it a public ‘panchayat’ between KCR’s children. “When the son is around, how does the daughter lay claim to political succession?” he remarked sarcastically, implying the feud was over legacy, not ideology.
Jagga Reddy also alleged that the letter hinted at a deeper, unspoken understanding between BRS and BJP. “Whatever this drama is, it has helped us. The Congress is politically stronger now, while BRS looks like it’s fighting itself,” he claimed.
With three years still left for the next Assembly polls, Jagga Reddy brushed aside concerns about the impact of the Kavitha episode. “Every party has internal issues. What’s happening here is that BRS is handing over its cadre to BJP, thanks to this family mess,” he said.
Referring to Kavitha’s independent political events and speculation around a new party, he quipped, “She’s no mass leader. She rose under her father’s shadow, and now she’s trying to cut the very branch she sat on.”
He accused Kavitha of pushing the BRS towards “political suicide” and indirectly strengthening a party like the BJP, which has little ground in Telangana. “Every time she opens her mouth, she weakens BRS and boosts BJP. She may not realise it, but she’s building their base,” he said.
Jagga Reddy said that Congress needs to stay alert and use this moment to bring disillusioned BRS leaders into its fold. “When the time is right, I’ll speak to CM Revanth Reddy and PCC chief Mahesh Goud. We know how to turn internal fights in other parties into our strength.”
