HYDERABAD: Congress leader Jagga Reddy has responded to Union Minister Bandi Sanjay’s comments questioning the caste and religion of Rahul Gandhi. Speaking at Gandhi Bhavan on Sunday, Reddy questioned whether Sanjay was aware of the Gandhi family’s history, highlighting their roots in the freedom struggle and identifying them as Brahmins and Hindus. He suggested that if Sanjay had doubts about Brahmins being Hindus, he should seek clarification.
Reddy emphasized that since India’s independence, the Gandhi family has transcended caste and religious boundaries, never using caste for political gain. He pointed out that, according to Hindu tradition, a wife adopts her husband’s caste, implying that questioning Rahul Gandhi’s caste reflects a lack of understanding of Hindu customs. Reddy criticized Sanjay for politicizing Hinduism for electoral purposes and questioned his knowledge of the religion.
This exchange underscores the ongoing political tensions between the Congress and BJP in Telangana, with leaders from both parties engaging in debates over personal and ideological issues.
