Hyderabad: Several staff members at Sangareddy Central Jail are under investigation for allegedly taking money through phone payment apps from inmates’ families to offer unauthorized facilities inside the prison.
According to officials, some staff bypassed their duties and directly received digital payments to extend special favours to select prisoners. These transactions reportedly surfaced in recent days, raising serious concerns.
In response, Jail Superintendent Kalasagar issued firm warnings. He made it clear that such misconduct will not be tolerated. The prison administration has started reviewing payment records, while the vigilance team has already gathered relevant data to trace those involved.
This development follows another troubling case at the same facility. Two inmates recently tried to end their lives by swallowing pieces of lead. Staff members quickly moved them to the Sangareddy District Hospital for treatment and later returned them to jail.
Meanwhile, jail authorities have raised alarms about security lapses during inmate transfers from court. Reports indicate that banned items were sneaked into the facility with outside help. To address this, the superintendent directed staff to step up frisking procedures, maintain clear log reports, and report any unusual activity immediately.
Some staff members have voiced concerns about colleagues who act as conduits for prisoners, saying such actions are tarnishing the jail’s image. They stressed the need for strict action against any official involved in such dealings.
