CS unveils ‘Jewels of Asaf Jahis’ book celebrating Warangal’s Nizam-era heritage

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao launched the coffee table book Jewels of Asaf Jahis – The Glory of Warangal, written by Kannekanti Venkata Ramana, Joint Director of the Information and Public Relations Department.

The launch took place on Wednesday at the Chief Secretary’s chamber in the Secretariat. C.H. Priyanka, Special Commissioner of the I&PR Department, was also present.

Rao commended Ramana for creating a work of historical value while continuing his official duties. He said the book highlights architectural marvels from the Asaf Jahi period. Moreover, it includes detailed profiles of Subedars who governed the Warangal Subah. He added that the book would be useful to researchers and civil service aspirants alike.

Warangal is mainly known for its Kakatiya-era landmarks such as the Thousand Pillar Temple, Warangal Fort, and Bhadrakali Temple. However, the city also features Nizam-era structures. These include the Kazipet Railway Station and the Dharmasagar Filter Bed, now part of the Mission Bhagiratha project.

The book explores the history of the Warangal Subah during the Asaf Jahi rule. At that time, the region covered parts of present-day Adilabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, and Khammam. In addition, it offers insights into the Subedars’ governance and showcases photographs of Nizam-era heritage sites.

Jewels of Asaf Jahis – The Glory of Warangal is intended for students, historians, and anyone keen on Telangana’s architectural history.
