JNTU students protest on Sircilla-Karimnagar highway over poor facilities

Hyderabad: Tension prevailed on the Sircilla–Karimnagar highway near Agraharam in Vemulawada Urban mandal on Monday as JNTU students staged a road blockade demanding basic facilities at their degree college.

The students alleged that the principal was not allowing them into the campus and expressed anger over the lack of classrooms and laboratories.

Students highlight poor facilities

Speaking to the media, students said the college had only eight classrooms, forcing them to travel to JNTU Kondagattu for practical sessions. They also complained that hostel students were compelled to walk two kilometres daily to reach the college, causing hardship.

Police intervene, detain students

Vemulawada police reached the spot and tried to disperse the protesters. Several students were taken into custody and shifted to the local police station.

BRS leaders extend support

On learning about the arrests, BRS leaders reached the station and expressed solidarity with the students. They assured that pressure would be mounted on the government to resolve the problems at the earliest.
