Hyderabad: In a coordinated operation, traffic police and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials cracked down on vendors encroaching footpaths in several busy pockets of the city. The joint drive, carried out by Sultan Bazaar Traffic Police Station and GHMC Circle 14, targeted businesses illegally occupying pedestrian pathways.
Several stretches, including Bank Street, Gokul Chat Lane, Sultan Bazaar X Roads, and Jain Mandir Lane, were cleared of unauthorised stalls and vendors who had taken over footpaths and portions of the road, leaving little room for pedestrians and contributing to traffic snarls.
During the operation, East Zone Traffic ACP Sampath Kumar spoke directly to the vendors, urging them to conduct business without obstructing pedestrian movement. He warned that strict action would be taken against anyone found indulging in encroachment of footpaths or roads for personal or commercial gain in the future.
Officials pointed out that footpaths are meant for pedestrians, and footpath encroachments not only cause trouble for people on foot but also add to the city’s growing traffic problems. The crackdown is part of a continuing effort to clear public spaces and make movement safer and smoother for everyone.
