Hyderabad: District Election Officer and GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan on Tuesday urged nodal officers to ensure full preparedness for the upcoming Jubilee Hills Assembly by-election.
During a preparatory meeting at GHMC headquarters, he reviewed key operational areas such as manpower deployment, transportation of EVMs and VVPATs, staff training, and distribution of election materials.
Importantly, Karnan directed officials not to assign election duties to voters from within the Jubilee Hills constituency, in order to maintain neutrality. Additionally, he asked officers to actively use EVMs and VVPATs in voter awareness campaigns across the constituency.
He emphasized strict adherence to the Election Commission’s guidelines. These include maintaining law and order, identifying vulnerable polling areas, implementing a district-level security plan, tracking election expenditures, and ensuring an effective grievance redressal system.
To improve coordination, Karnan instructed the establishment of a dedicated media center. He also stressed the need to ensure all polling stations are equipped with minimum required facilities, as per official standards.
Furthermore, he encouraged zonal commissioners to intensify SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) activities to boost voter turnout and awareness. He announced plans for another review meeting next week, where each nodal officer will present a PowerPoint report outlining their department’s readiness.
Among those present at the meeting were Zonal Commissioners Anurag Jayanthi, Apurv Chauhan, Srinivas Reddy, Hemant Keshav Patil, Hemant Borkhade, and Ravi Kiran. Additional Commissioners Alivelu Mangatayaru, K. Venu Gopal, Geetha Radhika, Vigilance ASP Sudarshan, CVO Dr. Abdul Vakeel, and PRO Dasharatham also attended.
