Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India on Sunday appointed central observers for the Jubilee Hills by-election, alongside several other Assembly bypolls across the country.
The appointments also cover seats in Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir (Budgam, Hayrota), Rajasthan (Anta), Jharkhand (Ghatsila), Punjab (Tarn Taran), Mizoram (9 seats), and Odisha (Nuapada). According to the Commission, 470 officers have been designated as observers. This includes 320 IAS, 60 IPS, and 90 IRS/ICS officials.
The observers will act as the “eyes and ears” of the Commission. Their role is to ensure transparency and impartiality in the electoral process. They will submit direct reports to the Commission throughout the poll period.
Bypoll likely with Bihar elections; notification after Diwali
The Commission stated that these appointments were made under Article 324 of the Constitution and Section 20B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
