Hyderabad: A nationwide strike branded as Bharat Bandh will be observed on Wednesday, July 9, with more than 25 crore workers expected to join the protest against what organisers call the central government’s pro-corporate and anti-worker policies.
The strike call comes from a joint platform of ten central trade unions, farmers’ bodies, and rural workers’ organisations. Mass mobilisation is expected across the formal and informal sectors, including large contingents from rural India.
Sectors likely to be affected include banking, coal, postal services, state transport, public sector units, and government departments. Employees from NMDC and other state-run firms in the mineral and steel sectors are expected to participate.
The unions involved include INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, TUCC, SEWA, AICCTU, LPF, and UTUC. Hind Mazdoor Sabha’s Harbhajan Singh Sidhu said strong participation is expected across industries and services.
While banking unions have not issued a separate strike call, organisers say staff from public sector and cooperative banks will join the protest. Branch operations, cheque clearance, and customer services may be affected in many regions.
