Hyderabad: Telangana Prohibition and Excise Minister Jupally Krishna Rao on Saturday ordered a statewide crackdown on narcotics and adulterated liquor. He said these substances are harming youth and public health.
He reviewed the performance of excise, enforcement, STF, and DTF teams at Abkari Bhavan in Nampally. During the meeting, Rao directed officials to act against marijuana, synthetic drugs, and non-duty paid liquor (NDPL). He asked them to work with bordering states and use the Preventive Detention (PD) Act against major offenders.
Moreover, the minister stressed the need for strict checks not just at borders but also in villages and remote routes. He urged officers to take firm legal action against all who transport or sell banned substances.
Speaking about the Charlapalli factory case, Rao asked for details on the FIR, remand report, and the actual value of seized drug materials. Officials clarified that the real value was ₹11.95 crore, not ₹12,000 crore as earlier reported. Rao warned that such errors could damage the department’s credibility. Therefore, he ordered statewide checks on all industrial units.
To reduce adulteration, Rao proposed bottling traditional Telangana liquors like Eeta Kallu and Tati Kallu. He referred to successful models in Goa and Madhya Pradesh. This move, he said, could also create jobs for toddy tappers. He requested a feasibility report and plans to discuss the idea with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
Finally, Rao noted a rise in illegal liquor at private events. He told officials to monitor function halls, farmhouses, and resorts. He warned that those who skip excise permissions must face legal action.
