Hyderabad: Telangana Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao on Wednesday announced a comprehensive plan to promote Sri Gnana Saraswathi temple in Basara as a major spiritual tourism destination. The state government intends to invest ₹190 crore to enhance facilities and infrastructure around the historic temple in Nirmal district.
Jupally, who also oversees the erstwhile Adilabad region, visited the temple to assess ongoing conditions. He later convened a review meeting with officials to discuss development plans under the temple’s master plan.
Digital financial tracking, facility upgrades ordered
During the meeting, the minister reviewed the temple’s revenue, expenditure, donation income, and annual footfall. He instructed officials to digitise all financial records and maintain them on a daily basis. He also directed the Nirmal District Collector to conduct regular management reviews to improve services for pilgrims.
“Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has approved ₹190 crore for Basara temple development,” Jupally stated. He emphasised the need to align all upgrades with the long-term master plan.
Preparations for Godavari Pushkaram 2027
Looking ahead, the minister asked officials to begin planning for the 2027 Godavari Pushkaram. He advised them to prepare detailed action plans well in advance to ensure a smooth execution of religious events tied to the temple.
The Basara temple, dedicated to Goddess Gnana Saraswathi, remains a prominent pilgrimage site in South India and is particularly known for the Aksharabhyasam ritual for children.
