Hyderabad: Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, commonly referred to as Justice A.K. Singh, took oath on Saturday as the new Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court, becoming the seventh Chief Justice to lead the Telangana High Court since its inception.
Governor Jishnu Dev Varma administered the oath at 12:30 p.m. at Raj Bhavan. Among those present were Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, DGP Dr. Jitender, several High Court judges, state ministers, and senior government advisors.
Justice A.K. Singh was transferred from the Tripura High Court, where he was serving as Chief Justice since April 17, 2023. His elevation was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium and approved by President Droupadi Murmu.
Earlier, he served as Acting Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court from 2022 to 2023 and held the post of Executive Chairman, Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority, from April 2021.
Born July 7, 1965, Justice Singh earned his LL.B. from the University of Delhi. He practiced at the Allahabad High Court from 1990 to 2000, and at the Jharkhand High Court from 2001 onward. He was appointed Additional Judge of the Jharkhand High Court on January 24, 2012.
He succeeds Justice Sujoy Paul, who was serving as Acting Chief Justice and has now been transferred to the Calcutta High Court.
