Justice P.C. Ghosh Commission to resume Kaleshwaram Project inquiry on February 27

The Justice P.C. Ghosh Commission will resume its inquiry into the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project on February 27, focusing on the Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages. Key officials have been summoned for re-examination.

HYDERABAD: The Justice P.C. Ghosh Commission is set to resume its inquiry into the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) on February 27, with a renewed focus on the Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages. The next phase of the investigation will involve the re-examination of several individuals who have previously testified, including engineers responsible for obtaining project approvals and overseeing construction activities.

Inquiry Reaches Final Stages

Since the inquiry began, the commission has interviewed 109 individuals, including project engineers, design consultants, operations and maintenance personnel, and representatives from construction firms. Public hearings have been conducted based on affidavits submitted by stakeholders, and testimonies have been recorded from field engineers, both former and current irrigation department secretaries, retired officials, and members of non-governmental organizations.

A comprehensive 400-page report has been drafted, incorporating the commission’s findings. As the probe nears completion, notices have been issued to key officials, including retired Chief Engineer Narender Reddy and Kaleshwaram Corporation Managing Director Hariram, for further questioning.

Commission’s Tenure Extended

To ensure the thorough completion of the investigation, the state government has extended the commission’s tenure by an additional two months. This extension will allow for a final review of testimonies and project documentation before the commission submits its concluding report.

The Kaleshwaram project, one of Telangana’s most ambitious irrigation initiatives, has been under scrutiny regarding its construction quality, financial viability, and operational efficiency. The upcoming hearings are expected to shed further light on critical aspects of the project’s execution and management.
