Hyderabad: Justice B. Sudershan Reddy, the INDIA bloc’s nominee for Vice President, filed his nomination papers on Thursday, formally entering the race against NDA candidate C.P. Radhakrishnan.
The former Supreme Court judge submitted four sets of papers to Rajya Sabha Secretary General P.C. Mody, who is overseeing the election process. The Vice President election will take place on September 9, 2025.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge led a high-profile show of support. He was joined by Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi. Other key leaders included Sharad Pawar, Ramgopal Yadav, Tiruchi Siva, Satabdi Roy, Sanjay Raut, and John Brittas. A total of 160 MPs signed Reddy’s nomination as proposers and seconders.
Officials reviewed the documents before issuing an acknowledgement. Reddy’s candidacy had been announced earlier this week after a meeting of INDIA bloc leaders, led by Kharge in his capacity as Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.
Justice Reddy is known for his legal acumen and focus on constitutional values. His judgments often championed social and economic justice, earning him broad respect in legal and political circles.
