Kakatiya University students protest steep semester fee hike

Hyderabad: Kakatiya University students from Warangal, Khammam, and Adilabad districts staged a protest demanding immediate rollback of the increased first-semester fees.

The protest took place in front of the university administrative office, where students expressed anger over private degree colleges collecting fees higher than the official university fee sheet. They accused the colleges of illegally overcharging new students in violation of the university’s guidelines.

According to members of the Democratic Students Association, the university recently revised its first-semester fee structure. Registration charges, earlier fixed at ₹80, have now been raised to ₹1,200. The total semester fee has surged from ₹1,340 to ₹3,250.

Apollo Shiva, district convener of the association, demanded strict action against such colleges. Students and parents said the revised fees were a heavy burden, especially on low-income and middle-class families who struggle to support their children’s education.

They criticised the administration for introducing such drastic changes without considering the financial impact. The students urged the university to intervene and ensure fair and lawful implementation of the fee structure.
