Hyderabad: The inquiry commission headed by Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose has finalised its report on the Kaleshwaram project and is expected to submit it to the Telangana government within days. With the panel’s term ending this month, the submission is scheduled as soon as the Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao grants an appointment.
Justice Ghose arrived in Hyderabad on Sunday afternoon to give the final touches to the document, which spans over 300 pages. The report scrutinises structural flaws in the Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages and identifies officials allegedly responsible.
The commission, constituted in early 2024, examined more than 116 individuals, including engineers, IAS officers, and the former Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues. It also reviewed government orders, contracts, and fund disbursements related to the project.
After submission, the state government plans to form a cabinet subcommittee to study the report. The subcommittee will, in turn, present its recommendations to the cabinet, which will table them in the Assembly. Following the Assembly discussion, action on those held accountable is likely.
Promotion proceedings for several engineers have already been stalled based on earlier reports from the National Dam Safety Authority and state vigilance. Anticipation is high over what action may follow the Justice PC Ghose commission’s findings.
