Hyderabad: Heavy rain battered Kamareddy district on Wednesday, flooding streams, washing away roads, and halting train services. The downpour, which began early in the morning, continued for hours, isolating several villages.
At Rameshwarapalli in Bichkunda mandal, floodwater washed away a stretch of track on the Nizamabad–Hyderabad rail route. Rail authorities suspended services immediately and said repairs would begin after the water level drops.
Kamareddy floods: SP leads dramatic rescue of seven villagers
In Ellareddy constituency, road damage left several areas disconnected. Overflowing irrigation streams made travel impossible in interior parts. Between Narva and Annasagar villages, seven people got trapped on a submerged road. District Superintendent of Police coordinated their rescue by personally speaking to them over the phone. An NDRF team, aided by local police, reached the spot and safely evacuated everyone.
Across the district, rainfall caused tanks and streams to overflow. Officials from the revenue, irrigation, police, and disaster response departments remain on alert. They are watching flood-prone areas round-the-clock.
The SP urged people to avoid crossing flooded roads or culverts, warning that even shallow water can be deadly. Meanwhile, district officials are arranging essential supplies for villages that are cut off. Relief operations will intensify if the rain continues, they added.
