Hyderabad: Heavy rain severely disrupted train services on the Nizamabad–Hyderabad line on Wednesday, as floodwaters damaged tracks near Bichkunda in Kamareddy district. South Central Railway (SCR) responded by cancelling 12 trains and diverting four others.
Non-stop rainfall caused floodwater to overflow the tracks at Thalamatla, washing away a section of the line. As a safety measure, SCR halted all train movement through the affected area. To maintain long-distance connectivity, the railway diverted four trains via Kacheguda, Kazipet, Peddapalli, and Nizamabad.
Nizamabad Hyderabad train services hit, repairs depend on weather break
In its official statement, SCR confirmed that it had cancelled the Rayalaseema Express. Trains heading to Maharashtra were diverted to bypass the damaged route. Meanwhile, SCR engineering teams reached the site and started repair work. However, officials noted that restoration would only proceed once the rainfall stops.
Elsewhere in Kamareddy, the district continued to face intense rainfall. Flooded rivulets and overflowing streams submerged many low-lying areas. Tanks and ponds neared breach levels, raising concern across rural pockets. On the Hyderabad highway, floodwater swept across the road, halting traffic and damaging vehicles.
In response, authorities placed disaster response teams on high alert. They urged residents to avoid waterlogged roads and flooded culverts. The irrigation department began monitoring tank levels, while police patrolled critical bridges and routes.
SCR also advised passengers to check real-time train updates before starting their journey. Delays will likely continue until officials confirm track safety.
