Hyderabad: The Karimnagar police seized a bike carrying a record 277 pending traffic challans worth ₹79,845. Officials said the action followed repeated violations of traffic rules despite ongoing awareness campaigns.
The incident occurred in the Sikhwadi area of Karimnagar town. During a routine inspection, Traffic Inspector P. Ramesh and his team stopped a Hero Unicorn bike (TS 02 EX 1395). After checking the vehicle records, they found that the rider had committed hundreds of violations over five years, from June 2019 to December 2024.
Rider identified with repeated violations
Police identified the rider as Abdul Khayyum, 37, an RMP practitioner from Godamgadda in Karimnagar. Out of the total challans, 264 came from within the Karimnagar Traffic Police Station limits.
Moreover, the violations included 254 for not wearing a helmet, 10 for not wearing a mask, 7 for triple riding, 2 for using a cellphone while driving, and 2 for not carrying a licence. In addition, one challan was for a defective number plate and another for zigzag driving.
Police begin legal recovery
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Yadagiriswamy said the rider’s negligence showed a clear disregard for law and safety. He confirmed that the department started legal proceedings to recover the ₹79,845 in fines.
Furthermore, the ACP warned that habitual offenders would face strict penalties. He urged all motorists to follow traffic rules, wear helmets, and drive responsibly to avoid financial and legal trouble.
