Hyderabad: Karnataka police busted a gang that killed a paralysed man, staged his death as a road accident, and tried to claim his ₹5-crore insurance.
The victim, Gangadhar, 34, from Hospet, had taken an insurance policy worth ₹5 crore. Detectives said a gang plotted his murder and executed it meticulously. They killed him, placed his body on a TVS scooter, and rammed it with a car in the outskirts. The gang then tried to pass it off as an accident.
Karnataka insurance scam foiled after wife raised doubts over accident claim
Police said a woman from the gang posed as Gangadhar’s wife and approached the insurance company to claim the money. However, the actual wife, Sharadamma, questioned the accident claim. She told police that Gangadhar had been paralysed, and the left side of his body did not function. “He could not ride any two-wheeler. How can you say he died in a road accident?” she asked in her complaint.
Her statement alerted police, who opened a full investigation. Within 24 hours, officers cracked the conspiracy and arrested all members of the gang.
