Hyderabad: A 16-year-old girl enrolled at the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Kotagiri mandal, Nirmal district, has been missing for over a week, triggering alarm among education and district officials.
The girl, a native of Hangarga village, had joined the KGBV school in Reddypally colony just four days before disappearing on 7 July. A man claiming to be her maternal uncle took her from the school premises that day.
The student’s father is deceased and her mother is reportedly mentally ill. She had been admitted to the residential school by her paternal aunt and uncle for intermediate studies.
With no trace of the girl a week on, the case has taken a disturbing turn. The school’s special officer, Srivani, along with staff, lodged a formal complaint with local police soon after the incident. Teachers approached police again on Wednesday, expressing frustration over the lack of progress.
Police have not publicly disclosed details of the investigation. The incident remained under wraps until senior district officials intervened. Additional Collector Nagesh and District Education Officer Radhakrishna visited the school on Wednesday and reviewed the case with school staff.
