Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi president Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Saturday demanded that the state government pay ₹1 crore to each family of those who died during the Telangana movement. She made the demand before launching her Janam Bata yatra, which will cover all 119 Assembly constituencies across 33 districts.
Kavitha began the day by offering tributes at the Amaraveerula Stupam (Martyrs’ Memorial) in Gun Park, Hyderabad. Addressing supporters, she apologised to the families of the martyrs for what she called “10 years of injustice” under the previous BRS government.
Kavitha demands compensation for all 1,200 martyrs’ families
She stated that while 1,200 people gave their lives for Telangana’s creation, only 580 families had received compensation. “The dreams they sacrificed their lives for remain unmet. I urge the state to provide ₹1 crore to every martyr’s family,” she said.
Kavitha acknowledged her own limitations during her tenure as MP and MLC. “Though I wasn’t a minister, I raised the issue multiple times within the party. Still, I feel I could have done more,” she said.
She pledged to continue pressing for full compensation until all affected families are supported. “We honour those who died for the dignity of Telangana. Their families deserve justice now,” she added.
Calling on the current Congress government, she urged it to act without delay and immediately release ₹1 crore per family.
