HYDERABAD: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K. Kavitha participated in the celebrations marking the birth anniversary of social reformer Mahatma Jyotirao Phule at Karwan on Friday.
Speaking at the event, Kavitha welcomed the Telangana government’s plan to install a statue of Phule at Necklace Road, stating that it was a commendable initiative. She noted that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had already conducted a site inspection for the proposed statue.
However, Kavitha urged the government to go a step further and install a statue of Phule inside the Telangana Legislative Assembly as well. She asserted that the BRS would continue its struggle until the Assembly also honours Phule with a permanent statue.
Kavitha emphasised Phule’s contributions to social justice and education, stating that his ideals must be recognised not only in public spaces but also within the institutions of governance.
